First Visit

The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association recommends that your child be seen for their first dental visit by the time they reach one year old. Let your child’s first tooth remind you that it’s time for them to see Dr. Kent. Early prevention and education is crucial at this time. The first visit includes a review of your child’s medical and dental history and an initial examination. At this time, we will “count your child’s teeth.”  After a comprehensive examination, we will discuss our dental findings with you. Dental x-rays or “pictures,” if necessary are also taken to ensure a thorough examination followed by oral hygiene instruction to emphasize proper oral health care.

All aspects of a preventive dental health program including diet, hygiene and fluoride will also be discussed. It is always better to make a first dental appointment before your child has a dental problem. By establishing a dental home for your children, they are more likely to receive appropriate preventive and routine oral health care as they grow from infants through their teenage years. At South Coast Pediatric Dentistry, we encourage you to be an active member of your child’s oral health care.

Please print and fill out our new patient forms and bring them completed with your insurance card to your first appointment.
